Santa Claus is Coming to Town (this weekend!)
Saturday is a big day for our little community. Keenly anticipated by young and old alike, Dunkeld’s very own Santa Day kicks off this Saturday, from 10am.
The community event is in its 28th year was originally started by one of the local retailers and the local tourist board in a bid to drive visitor numbers at an otherwise quiet time of year.
All day there are market stalls set up, indoors and outdoors around the village with local designer makers, businesses and community groups selling their Christmas goodies. You’ll find a hog roast, a brass band playing Christmas crackers (of course), street entertainer and, best of all, for the wee ones, Santa’s Grotto.
The highlight, is of course Santa, himself, who process from Birnam, over Telford’s famous Dunkeld Bridge and in to Cathedral Street. Santa sits atop a beautiful sleigh and is pulled by real reindeer, who travel especially from their base in Aviemore. One or 2 children from the village are selected to be his helpers for the day.
The event, which attracts visitors from the village, as well as further afield in Perthshire and the rest of Scotland, is run by a very small committee and band of volunteers. Fundraising takes place throughout the year, and the event is open to all. If you are staying with us this weekend, we highly recommend it.
