The UK game season opens on the 12th August every year with the start of the Red Grouse and Ptarmigan shooting season. The day, keenly anticipated by shooting enthusiasts, gamekeepers and chefs alike, is known as the Glorious Twelfth.
For some animals it’s open season all year, but in order to protect the population of some breeds, there are limits on the time when they can be hunted.
find this beautiful bird. Hunting for this bird is said to generate anything from £30m to £40m for the Scottish economy, and the debate rages on between the conservationists, and game keepers as to the rights and wrongs.
At Dunkeld House Hotel, as a nod to the traditions of the day, you will find game on our menu, and you can try your hand at shooting, without harming any grouse, with County Clays, the largest clay pigeon shooting range in Scotland. Busy over the 12th, book our Adventure Package and you’ll get a private clay pigeon shooting lesson.
With thanks to darleydalewildlife.blogspot.co.uk for the beautiful grouse image.
